According to the Repair of Laminated Automotive Glass Standard (ROLAGS) guide
that is put out by the National Windshield Repair Association (NWRA), a repairable chip shouldn’t be larger than three inches, and a crack can be up to 14 inches in length. Typically, chips smaller than a quarter and cracks shorter than three inches are the easiest to repair, but if the damage punctures the inner layer of glass as well as the outer layer, the windshield may need to be replaced.
